FAQ

Everything people usually ask before adding a Smartbotify chatbot to their website. Still stuck? Email help@smartbotify.in.

Getting started

Do I need a developer?+

No. You add content and paste one line of code into your website. If someone else manages your site, forward them that single line.

How long does setup take?+

Usually an afternoon. Collecting your content takes the most time; the technical step is one copy-and-paste.

Which website builders does it work with?+

Any site where you can add custom HTML or an embed: WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, or a hand-coded site.

Content and answers

Where do the answers come from?+

Only from the files and web pages you add. If the answer isn't in your content, the chatbot says it doesn't know instead of guessing.

What content can I add?+

PDF and plain-text files, and links to public web pages. Brochures, price lists, FAQ pages, policies and product descriptions all work well.

How many documents can I add?+

The free tier has a sensible cap on document count and total upload size so one workspace can't overload a shared server. Contact us to raise it.

How do I fix a wrong answer?+

Almost always by adding the missing document and re-training. The chatbot only knows what you've given it, so gaps are a content problem, not a settings one.

Does it work in languages other than English?+

The interface is in plain English. The chatbot answers in the language of your content and the visitor's question as well as the underlying model allows.

Customisation

Can I change how the chat box looks?+

Yes. You can set the greeting message, the main colour, light or dark theme, and which corner it sits in.

Can I see what people ask?+

Yes. Every conversation is saved so you can review common questions and spot gaps in your content.

What happens when the chatbot can't help?+

It tells the visitor it doesn't know and can show a leave-a-message form so they can leave their name and contact details for you to follow up.

Data, privacy and hosting

Where is my data stored?+

In the Smartbotify platform's database and vector store. If you self-host, all of it stays on your own server.

Can I self-host Smartbotify?+

Yes. It's a self-hosted, multi-tenant platform you can run with Docker Compose, including locally-run embedding and chat models, so there are no per-message API fees.

Do you train models on my content?+

No. Your content is used to answer your visitors' questions, not to train shared models.
